She is a German nurse married to a gipsy man who was deported in the spring of 1943 to Auschwitz II Birkenau Camp. In her dairy, Helene describes the sixteen months she spent in the concentration camp.
Helene was about to wake up her children to go to school when the police burst into her home. The policemen wanted to take her husband and her five children. According to the order signed by SS leader Heinrich Himmler on December 16, 1943, all gypsies who lived in the territories conquered by the Nazis had to be sent to concentration camps. The police told Helene that since she was German she did not have to go with them, but she decided to share her family’s fate. After telling her children that they went on a holiday, the whole family was deported to Auschwitz.[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container][fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”no” equal_height_columns=”no” menu_anchor=”” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” class=”” id=”” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_position=”center center” background_repeat=”no-repeat” fade=”no” background_parallax=”none” enable_mobile=”no” parallax_speed=”0.3″ video_mp4=”” video_webm=”” video_ogv=”” video_url=”” video_aspect_ratio=”16:9″ video_loop=”yes” video_mute=”yes” video_preview_image=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” padding_top=”” padding_right=”” padding_bottom=”” padding_left=””][fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
