Barcelona, Spring 1937. Detective Toni Ferrer identifies the corpse of a girl he has spent weeks looking for. What looked like a routine job became a desperate fight against time, the hunt for a monster that was prepared to carry on killing until the city exploded. Ferrer hit a wall of self-interests and silence. The police seemed more interested in covering up the event than catching the murderer. Why? In a country convulsed by violence, the detective –now working for the secret services– also has to face Russian and Italian agents who want to change the direction of the war. Meanwhile, the detention of an enemy courier awakes ghosts of the recent past to again test his integrity and intelligence. Once again, José Luis Ibáñez has managed to recreate the atmosphere of the terrible days of the Spanish Civil War like few authors can. His main character, Toni Ferrer, deserves to remain in the memories of readers.
